HIKING HOT SPOTS: Regional Trails for Hiking/Walking, Running and Biking!
Hopkins is the site of trailheads for 4 Three Rivers Park Regional Trails. Hennepin Parks take care of the terrific trails for everyone's enjoyment spring, summer and fall (winter permitting). The grades of the Trails are usually 5% or less, which makes them ideal for walking, running and biking. The Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail is a limestone path that runs west from Hopkins to the Carver Park Reserve in Victoria [15 mile trail]. The North Cedar Lake Regional Trail is a paved trail that goes northwest from Hopkins to Minneapolis [5.29 mile trail] . The Cedar Lake LRT Regional Trail is a very popular, wide-paved trail that heads east from Hopkins to Minneapolis--along the former railroad lines of the Great Northern Railway and the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway [4.5 mile trail]. The Minnesota River Bluffs LRT Regional Trail is a limestone trail that travels southwest/west from Hopkins to Chanhassen on an amazing old railroad route [12.25 mile trail]. The Trailheads are: A Park and Ride Lot along Excelsior Boulevard at 8th Avenue and The Depot Coffee House further down Excelsior Boulevard at the 169 Intersection. The Rotary Oasis created by the Hopkins Rotary Club serves as a trailhead for the Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail. The Oasis is located on the southeast corner of 9th Avenue and 1st Street North in Hopkins. These Regional Trails provide Hours of Fun for Everyone. Get Outside and Exercise while embracing the ever-changing Minnesota Weather.
STONE-ARCH BRIDGE: Minneapolis is home to the Spectacular Stone-Arch Bridge. Owned by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, this surreal bridge was built in 1883 by James J. Hill's Great Northern Railroad. The Park is open 6am to Midnight. The walking and biking trails are terrific. Check out the Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock & Dam Visitor Center which is located near the west-end of the bridge and open 9:30am to 6:00pm. You do not want to miss the yearly Art/Music Festival held here.
